Class Dojo Ready to build an amazing classroom community

Class Dojo

For teachers, parents, and students, ClassDojo is a beautiful, safe, and easy communication app. Teachers should inspire students to “work hard” and “teamwork” for any skills.

Teachers can introduce parents to the perspective of the classroom by sharing pictures, videos and announcements. Students can conveniently add their classwork to their own digital portfolios in order to see their parents. Teachers can also contact any parent securely and immediately. Parents see updates of their child at home As well as a stream of school pictures and videos, all of your favorite teacher tools are now in one spot, such as Community Maker and Noise Meter.

Use of Class Dojo:

By inspiring students and connecting with parents, ClassDojo helps teachers develop a positive classroom culture.ClassDojo is open to everyone, and teachers, parents, pupils, and school leaders have entered K-12 in over 180 countries. On all devices, such as tablets, phones, computers, and smart boards, it works. ClassDojo is marketed on Google Play as an app that helps children develop valuable soft skills, such as grit, curiosity, and concentration.

Free! Or free! The description states that ClassDojo “replaces tools for classroom management and behavior trackers such as gold-star charts with constructive reviews and parent contact” and that teachers will receive “immediate, positive reinforcement during class,” awarding “behaviors that matter most” to students (Google Play). The description states that ClassDojo “replaces” “Best of all,” it continues, “teachers should engage parents with progress updates and instant messaging from ClassDojo so that they can remain interested in the success of their child at school.

The ClassDojo website uses similar words, with slogans such as “happier students, happier classrooms!” “And glowing testimonials from teachers.

  • The organizational agenda:

Almost none of the venture capital funded educational technology apps (like ClassDojo) are the product of insights from pedagogy, educators, or science. What almost all of them come from, “he said,” is one insight that is, “Yeah, at school, children are bored, but they like video games” (Lafer, 2015). Educational technology applications such as ClassDojo seem innocuous in isolation, when combined with other disturbing patterns such as substituting learning assessments, limiting the rights of teachers’ unions.

  • How Safe is Class Dojo:

ClassDojo has been accredited for compliance with their COPPA Safe Harbor policy by iKeepSafe, an FTC-approved COPPA Safe Harbor. We do not ask or compel children to provide personal data beyond what is fairly appropriate for ClassDojo to be used.

  • How We Use the Information We Collect: We use the personal information we collect from students (or from teachers’ students) to provide and enhance the Program, or as needed by law, for educational, protection, and safety purposes. In order to participate in the service, we will not ask children to provide more personal information than is fairly required.
  • Retention of data: We will not maintain or offer the service for which we receive or obtain student personal information for any longer than is appropriate for educational purposes and legal obligations. In addition, with our industry-leading 3-Tier Student Data Security Strategy, we protect students. (1) we collect only the minimum information needed to register for the Service from students, (2) we delete their feedback points automatically after one year of school, and (3) we delete Student Accounts if they are inactive for more than twelve months
  • Design and Default Protection and Privacy: We use best practices from the security industry to protect personal information, including the use of encryption and other security protections to protect personal information. From day one, we develop products with protection and privacy in mind.

  • Classroom Behavior:
  • Improving Behavior:

A list of habits comes with the app, but you can create your own list. I did that as the school year wore on (i.e. homework, winner of the contest, etc.). For your virtual whiteboard, tablets, desktops or smart phones, ClassDojo can be used.

The distinctive sound produced when their avatar is clicked gives students immediate feedback on their actions.

  • Data Exchange

By monitoring the activities that have been clicked, ClassDojo automatically keeps track of the actions in your classroom.

You can customize it to generate reports that are sent to parents via email. Via printed or emailed invites, parents can interact. When they connect, every Friday they receive an email reminding them to view updates from their child. My students ‘ parents love getting the reports because it keeps them in the loop.

  • Time Saving

By tracking actions and achievements in the class with just one press, ClassDojo saves time. I don’t know about you, but I remember the time I was placing checkmarks on the panel. I generally ran out of the room, and, worse still, it was totally ineffective. All day long, I leave ClassDojo on the Smart board. It isn’t always clear, but it is possible to hear the echo. I have my iPhone in my ear, whether I’m working with small groups or welcoming students at the entrance. Without leaving my seat or entering the classroom, I’m able to send out positives or negatives. A definite saver of time.

  • Conclusion:

With good intentions, teachers use ClassDojo, and even though there are promising short-term outcomes, it is imperative that we question our assumptions about what a safe, democratic learning atmosphere in the classroom looks like. For me, it’s a place where compliance, competitiveness, and self-interest are prized above critical inquiry, compassion, and cooperation. Where learners learn to think freely, avoid compliance, take control of their learning.
